Indian Fashion Carnival 2010 in Kolkata: tribute to Mahatma Gandhi

Kolkata, Sep 1 (Calcutta Tube/IBNS): For the Father of the Nation it was a weapon to fight the British. For greens it is the in-thing. Fashion designers call it profits while the poor weavers call it survival.
Khadi, the quintessential fibre, which has evolved over time, is all set to adorn the Indian wardrobe this month when a three-day fashion extravaganza begins here on Sept 10.
Titled Indian Fashion Carnival, the show in Kolkata would be graced by designers like Bibi Russell, Zubair Kirmani, Rohit Karma, Riyaz Gangjee, James Ferreira and Soumitra Mondol among others.
Thanks to the endeavour of fashion designers, Khadi has transformed from being a common man’s cloth to exorbitant bridal drapes.
The Kolkata show will be showcasing the collection in Khadi and other natural fibres as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.

“Fashion in our country is not going to go anywhere if the weavers-the true masters of the trade-are not involved,” fashion designer Riyaz Gangjee told reporters on Tuesday.
