Endeavor to brand Istanbul as fashion capital

With exports cumulatively accounting to more than US $121 billion over the past 10 years and its rapid year-on-year growth, Turkey’s strong textile industry that has always offered it success and makes it feel proud, with the growing trend.
In the month of August, the ready-made garment industry of the country shipped products worth around $1.2 billion surpassing the automotive industry, the leading export industry of the country.
The Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporter Associations (ITKIB), which is amidst the largest associations of Turkish textile industry with 15,000 members, targets to increase the exports from $15 billion to $60 billion by the year 2023.
But, now the Turkish stakeholders have realized that just increasing production is not sufficient for the growth of textile industry and it needs makeover. Hence, the government and textile associations are endeavoring to create a flourishing Turkish fashion industry.
The textile industry insiders and the designers along with the government are co-operatively taking efforts to attain the common goal of converting Turkey into a fashion destination. It has been expected that at least 50 percent of the projected $60 billion should come from ready-to-wear brands designed by Turkish designers.
The government is trying to brand Istanbul as a fashion capital and offering support in this direction.
