I’m ready to strike a pose at the Cherry Blossom Fashion Show
Posted by Lucky on Mar 19, 2010

It’s easy for me to remember my anniversary here at The Telegraph.
I moved to Macon the week of the Cherry Blossom Festival three years ago.
My wife and I jammed packed our two cars, with the boy, the dog, stuff and my plants.
We left snow on the ground in Wisconsin and landed in a land full of cherry blossoms.
Everywhere we looked — pink.
I didn’t wear any pink that first year. Year two, I made a concerted effort to rock some pink.
I’ve stepped up my cherry blossom game this year and accepted an invite to hit the runway in the Cherry Blossom Fashion Show 2010.
This year’s show is being coordinated by The SoChi Cos. and I’ve learned to accept any invite with the word “SoChi” on it.
I’m a “celebrity” guest model. This is going to be so fun.
I have modeling experience. Home economics, eighth grade, Princess Anne Jr. High School, Virginia Beach, Va., Mrs. Cerrone’s class. I made some Bermuda shorts and all the students got to wear their project during the home economics fashion show.
This one’s a bit more serious and I’ve been making sure I learn all I can about working the runway.
I’m watching “Zoolander” every night, the 2001 motion picture by actor/director Ben Stiller, to get my mind right.
SoChi’s Terrell Sandefur, SaxyB Butler and Gracen Strong have been as busy as humanly possible finding the perfect outfits for dozens of models.
Watching them coordinate this thing makes me glad I’ll be on the runway and not organizing it.
I’m doing my best to keep up with all the e-mails from SaxyB and Gracen — “go here and get fitted,” “send me your hat size,” “go there and try on some clothes.”
I don’t usually use fitting rooms, but during the last few days, I feel like I’ve been living in them.
Jack & Coat Men’s Clothier, 484 Cherry St., one of the local retailers outfitting models, is the first fitting room I’ve ever been in with a view. The spacious room overlooks the water fountain at Cherry and Third streets. I didn’t want to leave.
The best Macon discovery I’ve had in months is LDW Men’s Designer Fashions, 3706 Mercer University Drive. Very classy. The store is owned by Doug and Louis White, a father and son team that clearly knows fashion.
I’ll also be wearing some gear from another one of my favorite spots, Treasure Vintage, 352 Cotton Ave.
I was ordered by SaxyB and Gracen to not reveal any of the shows surprises, but I have to share one of the items Chris Abbott at Jack & Coat has me wearing — skinny jeans.
If I go one biscuit over at dinner, I’m in big trouble.
The jeans have me a bit out of my comfort zone, but I’m going to do like fashion guru Tim Gunn says and “make it work.”
Sandefur and The Telegraph’s Liz Fabian will be the emcees of the event, which will include pink champagne and a catered brunch by the Marriott Macon City Center.
The show is 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Macon City Auditorium, 415 First St.
Tickets are $35 per person, $300 for tables of 10 or $20 for balcony seats. Call Mercer Ticket Sales at (478) 301-5470 or buy online at http://bit.ly/c5uJXT.
