Victoria Beckham defends fashion designers’ right ‘to use thin models’

Beckham, who has just received positive reviews for her fashion collection which premiered on Sunday during New York Fashion Week, said: “Most of these girls are naturally thin.”
Speaking on American daytime show ‘The View’, she said: “And I don’t think we should be discriminating against someone because they are too thin or too curvy or too large or whatever it is”
Backing up her desire for a more inclusive fashion industry, she explained her commitment to the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA).
“The CFDA have reached out to designers, stylists and casting directors not to work with underage models, girls that are too thin and to be more ethnically aware,” said Beckham.
“And I think designers are listening.
“I had a casting last week and had some terribly thin girls come in and it wouldn’t have worked.”
Promoting her recently premiered range of evening wear, she spoke how she had signed up to a campaign launched in the States to promote healthier sized models.
“The campaign the CFDA has launched is called ‘Health is Beauty’ and they are definitely encouraging designers to work with healthier sized models,” said the ex Spice Girl.
During her television appearance Beckham, dressed in a red jumper-dress and wearing her hair in a controlled bob also discussed her time as a judge on “American Idol”.
Asked by host Whoopi Goldberg what it was like to deal with all the terrible auditions the show’s judges go through, Beckham said she tried to stay positive.
“They are gonna find out they are pretty useless at some point,” she said.
“They don’t need me to tell them that. I know how hard it is to stand there and sing in front of people.
“It is really humiliating to be honest (American Idol), but I really believe in positive energy.”
Asked about her boss on the show, Simon Cowell, Beckham was equally honest in her appraisal of the TV mogul.
“He knows what he is talking about and I’ve known Simon for a long time,” said Beckham.
“So I can say that he is incredibly respected, he is very good at what he does and he is a complete pain in the butt.”
