For the final day of Fashion Week, and the last time that the showcase will be held under the Bryant Park tents (next season, the fashion flock heads to Lincoln Center), Isaac Mizrahi set his runway presentation in a park. But it wasn’t Bryant for Mizrahi; he went for Central Park. Leaves hung from the ceiling and there were even fake snow flurries.

But Mizrahi fans need not fear that the designer, known for classic American style with a twist, has forsaken stilettos for sturdy hiking boots. These woodland nymphs had a distinctly urban edge: minidresses of layered, oversize sequins strolled alongside lacy evening columns. “Parka Avenue” and “Society Samurai” were two of the tongue-in-cheek names on the program notes.

Over at Ralph Lauren, there were floating gypsy skirts and tea dresses in muted floral prints, high-necked cashmere knits and cropped velvet jackets in rich jewel tones. With those wardrobe hallmarks of singer Stevie Nicks, it was no surprise the soundtrack featured Fleetwood Mac.

Calvin Klein is an American label synonymous with elegant, minimalist sophistication. Designer Francisco Costa served up a stellar helping of just that for fall. At Calvin, trench coats were constructed of ivory shearling. A pintucked shift dress in azure was a standout, and teetering metal platforms had an architectural beauty akin to the city’s deco skyscrapers.

Sometimes it takes a woman to do a girl’s job. At Calvin Klein, three top models were on parade. Nothing new there, except that at 43, 39 and 33 years of age (respectively), Kristen McMenamy, Stella Tennant and Kirsty Hume are considered the old guard of the catwalk. But their experience showed, proving that know-how and beauty are ageless.
