New York–When Marc Jacobs and his business partner Robert Duffy tore the brown wrapping paper from a giant box to present more than 50 models wearing the fall 2010 collection, it was the big reveal – not only for those attending the show but also for those around the world watching it live-streamed from his website.
In this era of social media and instant communication, however, the duo had difficulty keeping that collection under wraps.
Jacobs is famous for not giving any hints beforehand about his collections, preferring to surprise his audience.
Duffy, a recent and avid Twitterer, was constantly beseeched by his many followers to give them any nuggets of information or to post photos on what to expect, but he never revealed any details about the collection.
What fervent fashion fans learned instead were many behind-the-scenes tidbits, such as that a week ago, Jacobs and Co. had no ideas for a set design and that mere days before the show, not a bag, shoe, or piece of clothing had arrived.
But on the day of the show, as Duffy posted on Twitter, a model had spilled the beans on what it all looked like to a magazine website.
Still, that hardly put a damper on, or lessened the excitement of being at the Marc Jacobs show – always the highlight of New York fashion week.
