Ugly Betty gets the axe as America Ferrera falls out of fashion in the States

It’s ugly news for the millions of fans of Betty Suarez and the stylish staff of Mode magazine.
ABC has officially pulled the plug on Ugly Betty, starring America Ferrera, saying the last episode will air in April in the U.S.
While the announcement today came as a surprise to fans, industry sources said the once ‘it’ show which premiered in autumn 2006, had been struggling in recent years with falling viewing figures.
The fashion-world comedy drew up 5.5million viewers on Channel 4.
Ugly Betty’s executive producer Silvio Horta and ABC president Steve McPherson said in a joint statement: ‘We’ve mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty’s final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion.’
ABC said eight episodes were left. The fourth series is yet to air in Britain, but had struggled for ratings in America.
