Ahhhhh January — the month of resolutions and new beginnings. The chance to reinvent yourself once again or simply convince yourself that you will reinvent yourself. We’ve all made those stringent new year’s resolutions — to cut out soda for the year, or read a new book every week and the all-time favorite — to lose weight or at least exercise for a healthier lifestyle. All great, all admirable but somewhere around the two-week mark life seems to get in the way.
So this year, if your workout plan disappeared faster than that honey-glazed ham at holiday dinner, reach for these savvy tips on how to create the illusion of a slimmer silhouette sans the 30 minutes a day, three times a week sweat fest.
Monochromatic
Everyone tends to reach for the all-black outfit to melt away the pounds. There is truth in this age-old trick. Dark colors are visually slimming, especially when the same color is worn head to toe. However, a little known fact is that most colors, when worn head to toe have the same slimming effect. The trick is to create one long fluid line which keeps the eye moving up and down your frame, not drawing attention to any specific part of the body, thus visually lengthening and slimming your frame. So if you feel bored with all black everything, then reach for head to toe white, navy, gray or virtually any other complexion-flattering neutral to whittle away the pounds in seconds.

People always give me the side eye when I talk about Spanx.
