Internet gives interior fashion trends international twist

The boom in online shopping has given contemporary interior design trends a distinctly international twist, it has been claimed.

According to Canadian House and Home magazine’s editor Suzanne Dimma, it has become far easier for people to search for and purchase their dream furniture pieces.

“You don’t necessarily have to go to the store in your neighbourhood. You can get what you want from around the world,” she told the Canadian Press.

“I think that’s a huge thing for retailers and for stores, as well. The world is your oyster now,” she added.

However, she noted that last year’s trends for exotic carpets with bold, contrasting colours are making way for more “home-spun and handmade” floor coverings.

She also claimed that just because furniture is easier to buy than ever before does not mean people are looking for cheap disposable pieces they will replace in a year’s time.

When the New York Times recently went shopping with renowned interior designer Clodagh, she claimed that a large dining table is a must-have as it will encourage social gatherings.
