Four students of SIWS college, have been booked for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting two of their classmates over a fashion contest that is part of their college festival.
On Friday, locals found Sudarshan Deenkaran, 22, and Masani Yadav, 22, with broken bones near a garden in Sion on Thursday. They were admitted to Sion hospital.
“The four boys had been harassing the two students to withdraw their nominations from the competition as the duo posed a threat to their chance of winning the contest,” said PSI D H Awhad of the Matunga Police Station.
According to police, Sudarshan and Masani excelled really well in extracurricular activities. Sudarshan’s troupe is quite famous in the college. The boys had won many inter-college competitions and this time they were considered as strong contenders.
“Our troupe had performed in various colleges and won many prizes. That is the reason why we were being threatened. I can’t even stand on my feet now,” said Sudarshan.
According to the victims’ statements, on Wednesday evening after college hours, Sudarshan and Masani had completed their rehearsal and were returning home.
A black Scorpio stopped outside the college gate and four of their classmates - Ganesh, Kartik, Symonds and Dinesh - allegedly pulled them into the vehicle. “They were constantly yelling at them and asking them not to participate in Saturday’s fashion show.
Later the duo was assaulted and thrown near a garden in Sion Koliwada,” said Awhad adding that an FIR under Section 361 (kidnap) and Section 323 (assault) of the IPC has been registered against the accused.
When contacted principal Dr P G Gopalkrishnan said, “It is an unfortunate incident. Though I do not have much detail about it, all I can say is that it should not have happened. I will check with the police tomorrow and take necessary actions.”
