Fashion took hard turn

2009 in fashion can be summed up in one word: tough. Not surprisingly, the biggest trends this year had an edgy, hard feel that perhaps was indicative of the tough-times-so-man-up attitude that prevailed. From androgynous boyfriend jeans to exposed oversize zipper detailing to structured military jackets to over-the-knee protective boots, the look was anything but soft. Color palettes were either in-your-face neon or muted gray, ivory, teal or mustard.
While I loved the change in silhouette that the boyfriend jean and accompanying long, lean boyfriend blazer brought to fashion — and I love my over-the-knee boots for the rocker chic they add to skinny jeans — I admit that I am looking forward to spring fashion. It promises to be fun, light and way less serious than this year’s style trends.
