Burberry’s creative director Christopher Bailey snatched the main prize at the British Fashion Awards on Dec 9.
It was a double win for the British label since Burberry also bagged the Designer Brand award. With so much praise from the British Fashion Council, it seems as if Bailey didn’t have another choice than announcing that he would continue showing his Burberry Prorsum collection (which returned to London Fashion Week for its 25th anniversary in September) in the British capital in February, which is what he did.
Bailey recently made waves by taking the luxury label to new social networking heights, including the interactive Art of the Trench site and enhanced Facebook activity, which many agree is the way forward in fashion.
Other big winners of the night included rock star offspring Georgia May Jagger who was named Model of the Year – she landed major gigs this year ranging from a Vogue cover to jeans and beauty campaigns – and US Vogue’s Grace Coddington, the secret star of fashion documentary, The September Issue, who was honoured with the Isabella Blow Award.
Dior’s John Galliano, who started out in London, was praised for his Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design, and model Kate Moss won the “London 25″ award for embodying the city’s fashion spirit.
