Celebs runway causeway

Bollywood celebs and causes have always gone hand-in-hand. And our enterprising star brigade has never shied away from doing that extra bit when it Sushmita Sen More Pics
Be it playing friendly cricket matches, posing for pictures that make a point, speaking aloud about the cause, or even blogging about it, Bollywood celebs have gone all out to endorse the causes that are close to their hearts. But now, all this seems passé…
They’ve discovered another ‘model’ way to ‘show’ their support, you see — walking the ramp. Guess they discovered this even as they began to increasingly promote their upcoming films via ramp appearances. When Salman Khan launched his own NGO, he was a star with a cause, and who else would he ask for support if not his show-cause fraternity. Now earlier, Salman used to paint and auction them for charity. But this time, he also decided to hold a fashion show. And if that wasn’t buzzy enough (it was talked about for months), he also roped in a bevy of stars to walk the ramp, including his lady love, Katrina, who wore an outfit hand painted by Sallu.
The star buzz about who will walk the ramp for Salman preceded the show by months – there were camp allusions – about how Aamir being a good friend of Sallu’s would walk the ramp, and then again, how he will also help pull in other celebs. The celebs totally took over the centrestage, so much so that no one really remembered to talk about the clothes they wore, or who designed them. Well, who would, when all the attention was on Bollywood’s macho brigade? Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, Aamir Khan, Govinda, and then some – all of them walked the ramp for Salman’s cause. In fact, Akki, with his wicked sense of humour, got things buzzing a bit more. As he walked down the ramp, he pointed towards the zip of his jeans as soon as he spotted wife, Twinkle on the first row!
And while we also saw Neha Dhupia and Jaya Prada on the cause-ramp not so long ago, one of the most talked about celeb-walking-the-ramp gala again had to do with Salman Khan. It was Sanjana Jon’s show at the Delhi Fashion Week. For weeks, it was talked about, no, not for the clothes that Sanjana was to show, but about who all was going to walk the ramp for her. Salman Khan, his brother Sohail Khan, Sushmita Sen, the other Sen sisters, Riya and Raima, cine stars in the making, Amaan and Ayaan, all walked the ramp. And though all this star power couldn’t quite get Sanjana the thumbs up buzz for her designs, it was a show that audiences, at least, won’t forget in a jiffy.
