Critical analysis

Mumbai: Designer Swapnil Shinde is only 3 years old in the fashion industry, but has received a lot of flak from critics and appreciation from the stars. He is gearing up to showcase his collection at the Hyderabad Fashion Week on November 17. He says, “This is the first time I am showcasing my collection in the South. My collection titled Star-dust mostly consists of evening-wear. It is very dramatic.”
Back in September when Shinde showcased his collection at Lakme Fashion Week (LFW), he received a lot of flack as critics complained about his poor finishing. He says, “The critics have always disliked my collection. Sometimes the finishing is not proper, at times the story line is incomplete. But my clients (Lara Dutta, Priyanka Chopra, Mugdha Godse and Amrita Rao) seem to wear my outfits one after another. Also I feel critics don’t understand that my target audience is much younger and more experimental in nature.”
Explaining these reviews, Shinde says, “My ace karigar was on leave during the fashion season. This worked against me as it was very difficult to connect with a third person at the end moment. My tailors and I work in sync and it is very important for them to perceive the clothes as I do. It took a great deal to communicate my views to them.”
He further adds, “I not only work on the fashion week garments, but also give clothes to several stars, music videos and lots more. All these general commitments leave me very little time for complete attention and energy towards the fashion week.”
