It was a game where the Moncton Wildcats kept coming back but even the dramatic events of the final three minutes had them on the wrong side of a 5-4 score.
Victoriaville scored first at 3:19 of the opening period, with Philippe Maillet getting a power play goal.

Brandon Hyes made it a two goal lead at 8:45 but Scott Brannon kept the Cats close with a short handed marker at 13:11 to round out the first period scoring.

The teams traded goals in the middle frame, Brannon tied the game for Moncton at 8:58 on a great individual effort but the tie was short lived.

Maxim Lamarche put the Tigres back in front 12:45

It appeared the Tigres had put the game out of reach with two quick goals in the third.

Philip Danault made it 4-2 at 3:11. Tomas Kubalik scored the fifth Victoriaville counter two and a half minutes later and the Tigres would cruise to an easy win but the Wildcats weren’t done.

Brannon with his second short handed and third goal of the game at 17:44 had the Cats within two.

With the Cats still a man short, Randy Cameron scored at 18:20 and it was 5-4.

A determined effort by the Wildcats in the final minute failed to get the equalizer despite having a power play and Louis Domingue out of the next for a sixth attacker.

Final shots on goal were 28-27 for Victoriaville.

The games three stars were Philippe Maillet and Marc-Andre Laroche getting stars one and two while Brannon was picked for the third star.

The Wildcats return home for a 7 o’clock contest against the Lewiston MAINEiacs on Tuesday night.
