Charles Jourdan shoes back in fashion

Iconic shoe label Charles Jourdan is returning to the catwalk.
The brand – one of the most popular footwear firms of the 60s and 70s – will unveil a new collection at Paris Fashion Week at the Premiere Classe exhibition.
Former Balenciaga and Celine designer Alexandra Neel is creating the new collection for the label’s owners Groupe Royer, who acquired the firm in December 2008.
Speaking of her design process, Alexandra has said: “I try to do something very different for stiletto addicts who are looking for something other than the usual.”
Prior to Groupe Royer’s takeover, Paris Hilton’s family had attempted to revive the label in 2007.
It had been rumoured the socialite’s mother Kathy planned to design a new collection, but it never materialised.
In mid 2002, the Charles Jourdan company filed for bankruptcy with over $9 million in debt.
It was reorganised with the Jourdan family selling their stake to Lux Diversity, a Luxembourg investment fund, after sails fell to just 65, 000 pairs per year.
Patrick Cox was named head designer in 2003 but left the firm to concentrate on his own label in 2005.
