Marrying in style still in fashion

THEY are still lining up to get married, and most want to do it with a good deal of pomp and tradition, whether in a church or not.
“They all want to be princess for a day,” said Gladstone Bridal and Boutique’s Ceona Mills who took part in last weekend’s Gladstone Dermotique Wedding Expo at the PCYC.
“The wedding industry is still very strong – they haven’t stopped getting married,” she said.
Ceona said that was also evident at the expo (organised by Gladstone Festival and Events) which this year attracted record crowds.
“The only difference is that the girls are looking at cheaper gowns now, but they still want to look as beautiful as they can.”
The event has become popular with locals who are planning their wedding day as it provides a one-stop-shop of inspiration and advice while showcasing all the goods and services that are available for the big day.
Major sponsor of the expo Aliska Bierman of Dermotique said everything would-be brides and grooms wanted to know about a wedding, whether it was the gown, the cake, the celebrant, photography, make-up, hair-styles, fuction halls, the catering and anything else was there to be sampled on the day.
Gladstone Festival and Events’ Michelle Stafford said the expo, the fifth since it was first put on the Gladstone calendar in 2004, was the most successful yet staged, attracting not only more people, but also many more displays.
Funds raised at the expo will go towards staging the Gladstone Harbour Festival.
The expo has become one of the major fundraisers for the annual festival.
Michelle said she would be surprised if $5000 wasn’t raised on the day.
On entry, patrons of the expo were handed The Observer’s Wedding Handbook containing helpful hints and advice that a couple planning a wedding would ask for.
There was also the opportunity for them and others attending the event to win great prizes in multi-draw raffles.
